11 political prisoners from Turkey -Ali Ercan Gökoğlu, Burak Ağarmış, Hasan Kaya, Sinan Çam, Şadi Naci Özpolat, Halil Demir, Anıl Sayar, Sinan Oktay Özen, İsmail Zat, Harika Kızılkaya and Hazal Seçer-, who have been imprisoned in Greece since March 19th, 2020, will have their appeal hearing on 16 November 2022.
In the special court where they have been tried, they were not given proper translation, the testimonies of defence witnesses were interrupted by the court bench, they were attacked by police officers in the courtroom, and on July 19th, 2021, they were sentenced to 33 years in prison each for “membership of a terrorist organisation”.
On 7 October 2022, they have started an hunger strike demanding a fair trial. We support their struggle.
From the first days of the hunger strike, the Thiva Women’s Prison administration started to put pressure on Harika Kızılkaya and Hazal Seçer, threatened them with disciplinary punishment and tried to throw them into solitary confinement. The two comrades refused this and as a result of the pressure of their comrades and friends, the 2 revolutionaries could not be given disciplinary punishment.
However, a few days later, when Hazal Seçer’s pulse was found to be higher than normal, she was forcibly taken to Thiva Hospital, where they tried to put an IV drip in her without her consent. As a result of the attack of the police and wardens, she suffered cuts and bruises on her body and was taken back to prison in this condition. It goes without saying that this treatment was torture and jeopardised his health.
We stand by the struggle of 11 revolutionaries from Turkey against oppression and torture. In solidarity, today, Saturday 12 November, we are on a one-day support hunger strike.
Release 11 Turkish Revolutionaries Immediately
Their trial will start on 16 November 2022 at 09.00 at the Koridallos Prison Court and a solidarity action will be held in front of the court.
We stand in solidarity with the (Italian) anarchist prisoner Alfredo Cospito, who has been on hunger strike since October 20th, 2022.
