Sinn Féin Poblachtach were saddened to hear of the death of Grup Yorum member Helin Bolek after 288 days on hunger strike. Helin is another martyr in a long line of martyrs fighting the injustices of Erdogan and his Fascist regeime.
We send our deepest condolences to the family, friends and comrades of Helin, we stand in solidarity with all Grup Yorum members fighting for justice. The death of Helin resonates strongly with Irish Republicans as we remember our own hunger strikers and martyrs at this time of year.
We remember the words of one of our own hunger strikers Terence Mac Swiney who died on hunger strike 100 years ago that “It is not those who can inflict the most, but those that can suffer the most who will conquer.” Take strength from these words.
We will continue to support all our Turkish comrades in their just struggle for justice, for an end to the persecution of Grup Yorum members + others.
Rest in Power comrade, you will be remembered with all your martyred comrades
