ON THE 53rd ANNIVERSARY OF THE BLOODY SUNDAY IN IRELAND. STATEMENT BY AIF

ON THE 53rd ANNIVERSARY OF THE BLOODY SUNDAY,
THE COMMON ENEMY IS IMPERIALISM
IT WILL BE DEFEATED WITH THE STRUGGLE AND SOLIDARITY OF THE PEOPLE

Bloody Sunday 30 January 1972 was a message from the British imperialism for the Irish people. It was a clear message. Their army of trained killers were facing unarmed civilians. They then cowardly opened fire and massacred 14 people and injured 12. None of them were combatants, some were shot while fleeing the others while helping the injured.

This message was an attempt to break the resistance of Irish people during the struggle for independence. This was an attempt to terrorise the people so that they would stop supporting the resistance. Did they achieve it! NO! The struggle for a free Ireland strengthened and carried on for another two decades until the British imperialism was forced to recognise the will of the people’s power.

A similar massacre took place, five years later, on 1st May 1977, this time in the centre of Istanbul, Turkey during a Mayday rally. About half a million of people gathered to celebrate the day of struggle and unity of the workers of the world. Perpetrators opened fire from the rooftops whilst the armoured police vehicles crushed the people. 38 people lost their lives and hundreds were injured.

The message was for the peoples of Turkey for exactly the same reasons as the massacre in Derry. Did they succeed it? NO! The struggle for an independent and democratic Turkey is still ongoing.

We are living in the era where the main contradiction is between Imperialism and the people of the world. What we are witnessing in Palestine, Lebanon and Syria is the result of this contradiction. The US-EU imperialism, by means of Zionists in Israel and fascists in Turkey and the mercenaries so called jihadists want their hegemony in the Middle East. This seems like the part of their “Greater Middle East Project” costing thousands of lives, primarily in Palestine and subsequently in Lebanon and Syria.

Despite of the massacres in Palestine the will of the people couldn’t be broken. They fight against the savage invaders with every means possible. The people throughout the world are on streets protesting this genocide. They could not achieve to silence them. Complicity of the states, including UK, the EU, Turkey, Arabic countries etc. and so called international institutions like UN have shown their true face once again. The ongoing genocide and now the invasion of Syria are the parts of the US project called BMENA (Broader Middle East and North Africa).

We feel the suffering of the people. We also believe in the resilience of the people. They are not alone. There are democratic, revolutionary, progressive organisations, institutions and individuals who care what’s happening there.  So we are the people.

We are coming from the line of people who said “above all, always be capable of feeling deeply any injustice committed against anyone, anywhere in the world”.

Bloody Sundays are massacres of imperialism.

Down with imperialism, fascism and Zionism.

Long live international solidarity.
