On July 1, at 3 a.m., police of the fascist government of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) raided the youth camp of the World Anti-Imperialist Platform, which was holding an anti-fascist conference against the NATO summit in the suburbs of Istanbul. More than 20 people, both internationalists and local progressive activists, were detained during the raid with the use of force.
According to the organizers of the camp, the detainees are being held at the Canakkale police station. They are accused of “propaganda of terrorism.”
The NATO summit will be held in Ankara on July 7-8, where the main item on the agenda will be the creation of a NATO army corps in Turkey.
The creation of an army corps in Turkey will mean the occupation of Anatolia by NATO troops and its transformation into the central headquarters of the war against the peoples of the Middle East and the Caucasus.
Imperialism plans to turn Turkey into its forward outpost and launch attacks on the peoples of the world from its territory.
On the eve of the NATO summit, the AKP fascist regime is conducting a so-called “anti-terrorist operation”, during which more than 500 people were detained, arrested and tortured under the pretext of ensuring national security.
The AKP regime is obligingly preparing to welcome real terrorists and murderers from NATO, for which it has banned all forms of public gatherings, demonstrations, street marches, press conferences, distribution of leaflets, posters and hunger strikes in the Turkish capital Ankara and in all places where NATO military bases are located.
For the sake of murderers, rapists and robbers, the fascist regime blocks roads, stops construction sites and the work of artisans and small traders, “shamefully” closes slums with a multi-kilometer fence, sends workers on unpaid leave, frees hospitals from patients, kindergartens from children, and dormitories from students. Martial law is practically being imposed in Ankara. All this is to make the participants of the summit of the terrorist North Atlantic Alliance feel safe.
But we will not allow them to calmly continue their attacks around the world, plundering and killing nations!
The participants of the youth camp of the World Anti-Imperialist Platform and all more than 500 detained people must be released immediately!
All of them must be released immediately.
