DELEGATION MEMBERS WERE DETAINED AT CAIRO AIRPORT,
TORTURED, AND DEPORTED
13TH October 2025
At the call of the People’s Front (Turkey), under the slogan “We Are Going to Give Life to the People of Palestine,” members of the Until Victory Delegation; Eda Deniz Haydaroğlu, İleni Açıkgöz, Derya Devrim Özçelik, Berivan Gel, Yıldıray Yetik, Hasip Kıvrakdal, Sevil Sevimli, and Konstantina Kartsiotsi who had set out from Berlin toward Gaza on 20th September, were stopped, tortured, detained, and deported at Cairo International Airport on Wednesday 8th October .
Departing from Berlin on September 20, after holding demonstrations and events in 14 cities across 9 European countries, the Until Victory Delegation planned on the 19th day of their march, Wednesday, 8th October to fly from Athens to Cairo and from there reach Gaza through the Rafah Border Crossing. However, while still at Athens Airport, they were stopped during passport control. Five delegation members (Eda Deniz Haydaroğlu, Sevil Sevimli, Yıldıray Yetik, Hasip Kıvrakdal, and Berivan Gel) were arbitrarily detained for about 45 minutes. No explanation was given as to why they were held; after being asked questions about their identity and address information, they were released.
Composed of Turkish revolutionaries who are citizens of Germany, Austria, France, and the Netherlands, and of Greek citizen (member of the Anti-Imperialist Front) Konstantina Kartsiotsi, the Until Victory Delegation landed at Cairo International Airport at 16:20 local time on 8th October, after a one-and-a-half-hour delayed flight. However, before passport control, their entry into Egypt was denied, and all members of the delegation were tortured and detained. The members were thrown to the ground, beaten, and taken to a police station with their hands cuffed behind their backs. They were kept handcuffed in the police station overnight and were not allowed to meet any of their needs. In other words, they were subjected to torture throughout the night.
From the moment they were detained, the delegation members were subjected to torture, threats, and insults by the Egyptian police. Their families and relatives, who were concerned for their health, were given no information. Only limited information about their health status could be obtained through the embassies of their respective countries. The next morning, Thursday, 9th October, starting from the early hours, the delegation members were placed on planes to be deported to the countries of which they are citizens. German citizens Eda Deniz Haydaroğlu, İleni Açıkgöz, and Berivan Gel were sent to Frankfurt; Austrian citizens Hasip Kıvrakdal and Derya Devrim Özçelik to Vienna; French citizen Sevil Sevimli to Paris; Dutch citizen Yıldıray Yetik to Amsterdam; and Greek citizen Konstantina Kartsiotsi to Athens, all were deported.
The only explanation for this situation is the collaborationist nature of the Egyptian government. Because of its cooperation with Israeli Zionism and U.S. imperialism, the collaborator Egyptian government erected a barrier before the Until Victory Delegation to prevent any solidarity with the people of Gaza, who, for two years, have been under Israeli occupation and blockade, where genocide and crimes against humanity have been committed, where more than 67,000 Palestinians have been massacred, and where hunger is used as a weapon against the Palestinian people. The very reason the Rafah Border Crossing, which the delegation demanded to be opened, has remained closed for months leaving the people of Gaza to die, is this same collaboration.
The prevention of the Until Victory Delegation from traveling to the Rafah Border Crossing and entering Gaza, their detention under torture, and their deportation are arbitrary and unlawful acts, constituting a clear violation of international law. Therefore, we will continue our struggle by using every right at our disposal to ensure that those who committed these crimes, those who tortured the members of the Until Victory Delegation and those who erected barriers against solidarity with the people of Gaza are prosecuted and held accountable.
Whatever happens, no matter what obstacles they place before us, no matter what barricades they build, they will not be able to stop our solidarity with the Palestinian people, nor our struggle for the life and freedom of the Palestinian people.
