March 8 Statement
Oppressed, Resisting, Fighting Women; Against the Imperialist-Fascist Siege, It Is Time to Raise Higher the Flag of Women’s Honor and Pride, the Flag of Resistance and Struggle!
We live in a world under fire.
In nearly all countries, we are under imperialist, fascist siege.
Bombs rain from the sky onto the peoples.
Operations are carried out against the most vibrant and dynamic forces of the peoples.
March 8 is the name of the rights and freedoms won by working women of the world through struggles. It is the name of a victory. That is why we say, “Let it be celebrated!”
Yet the attacks and resistance continue.
For this reason, March 8 is the name of a struggle that never ends and will not end until the final liberation of the peoples.
Women in Iran are under bombs today.
Women in Lebanon and Palestine are under bombs.
Women in Cuba are in darkness.
The resisting, free women of Turkey are in blizzard conditions.
Women in Syria are under the heavy oppression of reactionism.
Women in Venezuela experience the dishonor of imperialist attack and a collaborative government.
Women all over the world suffer the pain of not being able to feed their children. Hundreds of thousands of women, on migration routes, are searching for a “peaceful” future they may never reach.
Whatever the “proportion” of women in struggle, they are half of the fight. This has always been the case throughout history.
The liberation of women and men, of the people, is one. The history of class struggle proves this.
The bourgeoisie, using all means, tries to channel women’s historical struggle in the wrong directions.
By opposing the “double” oppression and humiliation of women,
By building gender equality within struggle and life,
It is time to advance the struggle for liberation together.
In a world under bombs, in a world where the damage caused by imperialist culture and corruption is greater than that of bombs, this is our only chance for liberation.
All over the world,
All genders,
All nationalities,
All beliefs,
All peoples…
Must resist together, must fight together.
This is our March 8 wish.
All revolutionary, progressive, anti-imperialist, anti-fascist, patriotic forces in the world, women and men, black, white, yellow…
Must unite and march together against imperialism.
This is our March 8 wish.
Women;
In the fields of resistance and war, in prisons, in front of prisons, in hunger strikes, in poor slums, have added their love, compassion, labor, and lives to this struggle.
The women of our country and the world who have fallen as martyrs in this struggle are the richest legacy of women and peoples worldwide.
This legacy stretches from the Sisters of Truth, to Rosa Luxemburg, from Kara Fatma to Mitka Gribčeva, from Tanya to Ulrike, from Leyla Qasim to Soha Bechara, from Sabola to Gülsüman, from Idil to Ebru—it is a vast sea.
This legacy is the light of the path to women’s freedom.
Our women, following this light, are becoming free and will become free.
Let us expand this legacy. Let us enrich this heritage.
This is our March 8 wish.
We greet the working and resisting women of the world with the verses of Ahmet Arif:
