WITH HUNGER STRIKES AND DEATH FASTS WE BUILD VICTORY STEP BY STEP – STATEMENT OF THE ORGANIZATION OF FREE PRISONERS

In a long-lasting resistance, we carry our struggle to victory by passing the flag from hand to hand.

WE OPENLY DECLARE AGAINST ALL FORMS OF DEMAGOGY, DISTORTION, LIES AND RUMOURS THAT…

OUR PATH IS LONG — OUR RESISTANCE CONTINUES.

FROM MEXICO TO PALESTINE, FROM SRY-TYPE PRISONS TO LEBANON… WE CONTINUE TO SHOUT THAT WHEREVER THERE IS RESISTANCE, THAT PLACE IS THE CENTER OF THE WORLD.

OUR SRY-TYPE RESISTANCE IS STILL THE CENTER OF THE WORLD.

Serkan Onur Yılmaz began his indefinite hunger strike on 11 November 2024 in Antalya Pit-Type Prison. The aim of his resistance was the closure of the well-type prisons and transfer to a prison that is not well-type, where his comrades are detained.

The resistance was victorious — the transfer demand was accepted. On the 213rd day of the hunger strike, he was transferred to Bolu Type-F Prison.

He continued his resistance afterward to support the struggle of his comrades imprisoned in the well-type prisons. This is the strength of socialist values in a world where imperialism imposes individualism and selfishness. Against individual salvation stands collective liberation, the value of socialism. Against selfishness stands comradeship, the value of socialism.

Serkan Onur Yılmaz upheld and strengthened the values of socialism.

His resistance lasted a total of 375 days, of which 162 days were in support of comrades resisting in well-type prisons. We have carried our resistance and the resistance flag hand to hand since 1 May 2023 against well-type prisons.

In the face of the long-term assault of subjugation by imperialism and fascism, we are in a long-term resistance. We are entering a new phase to continue this resistance. The resistance flag is now carried by 13 resisters in well-type prisons. Our struggle will continue with a new phase and a new program.

Serkan paused his resistance on 21 November 2025, after 375 full days of struggle.

With hunger strikes and death fasts spanning hundreds of days, we build victory step by step. Victory is refusing to allow passage to the policies of imperialism and fascism.

American imperialism seeks to establish a world empire.

In 1947, US President H. Truman said: “The US system cannot survive unless it becomes a world system.”

The United States was to become the world system. How? Through colonizing all countries, and establishing its ideological, cultural, political, and military domination.

Since 1947, new colonial relations began to be developed. With economic and military agreements, the first steps of neo-colonial relations in Turkey and Greece were taken.

From the 1940s to today, this program of new colonization has been implemented. In the 1970s, the method of application of neo-colonial policies was called “neo-liberalism.”

The first country where neo-liberalism was implemented was Chile. President Allende was a socialist, elected through voting. In 1973, the socialist government was overthrown, and Allende was killed in a coup organised by the United States. Then began privatization and plundering policies.

This was neo-liberalism: US domination was to be ensured through invasions and coups.

Many fascist coups and neo-liberal policies followed the Chilean military coup — across Latin America, Asia, Africa. In Turkey, this was achieved by the 1980 military coup. With the subsequent ANAP government, Turkey was introduced to privatization and plunder policies, known as neo-liberalism.

Neo-liberalism meant removing all barriers to imperialist monopolies — unlimited, uncontrolled exploitation.

In the 1990s, counterrevolutions took place in socialist countries. This was the defeat of revisionist governments by imperialism.

The United States is operated through declared doctrines and strategic documents. The essence of all: to become the world system. That means establishing full domination worldwide.

All people, organisations, and countries opposing the interests of US imperialism were targeted. “Terror lists” were published targeting them. The propaganda claimed: America overthrows dictatorships, brings democracy to countries. “Human Rights” and “Democracy” were used as justification for invasions and regime change.

A policy was applied to corrupt all socialist concepts and values.

Counterrevolutions were labelled as revolutions. With carnations, roses, “colour revolutions” became tools to bring pro-American governments into power. Even criminal gangs collaborating with the US were called “revolutionary.” As in the example of Rojava, US invasion and collaboration were called a revolution. Revolutionary ideology and literature were targeted.

This was called the New World Order.

“The socialist system is gone; imperialism is the sole ruler — a unipolar world,” they said.

In 2001, US imperialism announced the “pre-emptive war doctrine.” Their strategy: “striking before being struck,” “war against terror.” Meaning: America can bomb or invade any country. Any country, organisation, or person that does not bow to the US is labelled “terrorist.”

International laws, legal systems, agreements — none have meaning. What they call “rule of law” is the dominance of imperialism.

F-Type Prisons and Well-Type Prisons

To ensure full domination of America,

Our resistance is to keep the revolution alive and grow it.

Tools of subjugation by imperialism:

  • Prisons
  • Torture
  • Massacres

From FARC to the Kurdish nationalist movement, they bowed to imperialist dominance. We resisted. We declared independence, democracy, socialism.

F-Type prisons were introduced.

Between 19–22 December 2000, 20 prisons were attacked simultaneously. 28 revolutionary prisoners were killed, 24 of them members of the Front (Cepheli).

Fascism is the BLOODIEST tool of the rulers.

The greatest weapon of the people against fascism is RESISTANCE.

8,000 soldiers participated in the assault. 20,000 gas bombs were used.

Commander Zeki Bingöl admitted:

“The operation was carried out to push the left into the nationalist camp, it was against the DHKP-C. The operation was done to wipe out the DHKP-C.”

They could not make us surrender. They could not finish us, because we resisted.

F-Type prisons meant massacre, torture, and isolation.

The target was DHKP-C — because it was the only organisation that did not surrender. We continued our resistance against F-Type prisons for 6 years and 3 months, that is 75 months.

Opportunist organisations withdrew from the resistance after 1 year, 7 months, and 8 days.

WE REPEAT:

The Great Resistance began 20 October 2000, ended 22 January 2007.

Resistance lasted 6 years, 3 months, 2 days,

75 months,

326 weeks and 3 days,

2286 days, 25 seasons.

They remained in resistance only 1 year, 7 months, 8 days. They left the Front prisoners alone before the enemy.

In the resistance, we had 122 martyrs — 99 from the Front. 34 of them were martyred outside the prisons.

Among our martyrs:

  • 48 were women
  • 24 set themselves ablaze
  • Over 400 prisoners were left disabled
  • 13 Death Fast teams were formed

The sit-in initiated by the families (TAYAD) in Abdi İpekçi Park continued until 27 January 2007 — 3 years, 4 months, 2 weeks, 1 day, that is 1230 days.

F-Type prisons were the biggest assault of the subjugation policy up to that date.

We resisted — they failed.

They failed — and then silently began the well-type prison assault.

We resist. They fail. They will not succeed.

Our resistances erased the distinction between inside and outside. Of the 122 martyrs of the Great Resistance, 34 were martyred outside. The resistance in the F-Type prisons united with the outside.

When the massacre took place in Armutlu, the self-sacrifice actions carried it inside the prisons. We responded to the Armutlu massacre with successive acts of self-sacrifice in prisons.

At Abdi İpekçi Park in Ankara, we held a day-and-night sit-in for 3 years, 4 months, 2 weeks, 1 day — 1230 days, until 27 January 2007.

From 20 October 2000 to 17 January 2007 the Abdi İpekçi Resistance:

  • 3 years
  • 40 months
  • 160 weeks
  • 1230 days
  • 13 seasons

The 1984 Death Fast lasted 75 days, first martyr on day 63.

The 1996 Death Fast lasted 69 days, first martyr on day 63.

The 2000–2007 Death Fast Resistance lasted 75 months, first martyr on day 150.

Berkan Abatay fell martyred on the 589th day.

Our long-term resistance is the determination to win victory.

In the 1984 and 1996 Death Fast resistances, many prisoners became disabled due to Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome, caused by lack of vitamin B1, leading to brain damage and memory loss.

When the death fast resistance emerged in 2000, we decided to take vitamin B1 during the resistance.

Our aims:

  • to prevent disabilities caused by lack of B1
  • to extend our resistance over a much longer period

The 1996 Death Fast lasted 69 days — “69 days of uninterrupted action”, we said.

Because each moment of the death fast is an action. It is an action that explains political reality to the people. That breaks the bans and siege of imperialism and fascism, reaches the people, calls them to the ranks of revolution.

In the 2000–2007 Death Fast, we experienced a period of 75 months of explaining political realities to the people. Among those who resisted to the 589th day and fell martyred, like Berkan Abatay, and those who fell martyr on the 17th day, like Faruk Kadıoğlu, performing a self-sacrifice action to counter the forced intervention and disablement policy of fascism – there were also comrades who secretly took the lighter from the prison director during meetings to carry out their self-sacrifice.

We resisted with determination and creativity, never deviating from our objective for even a moment.

To break the resistance, a policy of release (discharge) was developed.

We turned Küçük Armutlu into a resistance neighbourhood. The struggle continued outside.

We resisted the massacre assault. We lost Sultan Yıldız, Arzu Güler, Barış Kaş, and Bülent Durgaç as martyrs.

We protested the massacre, carrying out self-sacrifice actions by setting ourselves on fire.

Every moment was an action. Every moment a tooth-for-tooth clash with the enemy.

A war unlike any other in history — a war of will. A war of ideology. A political war. A military war.

A war of lies against truth. A war of the bourgeois culture and morality against revolutionary culture and morality.

We prevailed.

Since 1947, imperialism has had a domination program — a long-term program spanning decades.

We too have a program: a long-term program of resistance and war, stretching across decades.

Imperialism and the collaborating oligarchy, learning from the F-Type prisons, brought forward SRY well-type prisons.

They were opened silently. The world found out through the transfer and resistance of Front prisoners to well-type prisons.

While the assault of subjugation in the well-type prisons continues, those who surrendered to imperialism are released in groups of hundreds.

Anatolian soil is witnessing both death-bound resistance and submission. The submission of Kurdish nationalists and the opportunism that follows them turns into collaboration, negotiations with fascism, and praise for fascist leaders.

Under these conditions, we grow the resistance — and we will continue to grow it.

With our hunger extending over years, with our burning patience extending over years, we grow the revolution.

Imperialism and fascism aim to break the resistance of the people.

Without ever leaving the ranks of resistance, we grow the resilience and hope of the people.

Imperialism and fascism attack using the lessons they learned from F-Type prisons.

We resist using the lessons we learned from our 75-month resistance.

The 1984 Death Fast was created by comrades who organised the Maltepe and Kızıldere resistances.

The 1996 Death Fast was created by comrades organized by those of 1984.

Today, among those resisting in well-type prisons, there are comrades who were 5–6 years old during the 2000–2007 Death Fast, and there are those who have been prisoners for 27 years.

This is a revolutionary march passed on from generation to generation.

Long-lasting people’s wars are the result of the new colonial relations of imperialism.

What determines the duration is the people’s participation in the revolutionary ranks.

What determines the people’s participation is the revolutionaries explaining the political truths to the people — that is, raising their consciousness and political awareness.

Through our death fast resistances, each moment of which is an action, we explain political truths to our people.

We draw our people’s attention away from daily subsistence struggles and towards revolution.

Under the siege of imperialism and fascism, we wage a great war of will to win over minds and hearts.

The foundation of our war is ideological struggle. Our battlefield is the mind and heart of the people. Our goal is ideological and emotional influence.

We will win by revolutionising minds and emotions.

Long live our death fast resistance!

Long live the victory we declared from the first day of our struggle!
