INVITATION TO THE INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM 9 APRIL 2022 – ATHENS

INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM

9 APRIL 2022-ATHENS-GREECE

“THE LEGAL TERROR OF IMPERIALISM, THE RIGHT TO A FAIR TRIAL AND POLITICAL PRISONERS

WE DEFEND THE RIGHT TO A FAIR TRIAL AGAINST

IMPERIALISM’S LEGAL TERROR!

REVOLUTIONISM IS NOT TERRORISM, REVOLUTIONARIES ARE NOT TERRORISTS.

IMPERIALIST AND FASCIST POWERS ARE REAL TERRORISTS.

WE WANT JUSTICE FOR 11 REVOLUTIONARY IN GREECE FROM TURKEY!

Today, although the bourgeoisie and individual governments in general show the “right to a fair trial” as a blessing along with concepts such as “state of law”, “rule of law”, “equality before the law”, we know that this is not the case.

The right to a fair trial, like all other rights, is a right that we have managed to include in the legal texts of the oppressed, exploited and oppressed peoples of the world through thousands of years of struggle. In other words, no one granted us this right, we won it with thousands of years of struggle and at great cost.

Today, imperialism and collaborationist fascist governments accuse revolutionaries fighting against this terror, this tyranny with “terrorism” and usurp their right to a fair trial through political trials, in order to cover up the crimes they have committed against the peoples of the world, to hide or justify their own terror.

We, on the other hand, continue to defend our right to a fair trial by paying the price, by fighting against these attacks, this tyranny, and this legal terror they practice by imperialism and fascist powers. Our struggle for a fair trial for 11  revolutionaries from Turkey imprisoned in Greek prisons today is a part of this.

11 revolutionaries from Turkey, who were political refugees in Greece, 2 years ago, on March 19, 2020, He was detained and imprisoned in an “extraordinary” operation in the capital Athens, giving the impression of a “great terrorist operation”. The 11 Turkish revolutionaries who were imprisoned were people who had been carrying out legal-democratic activities in Greece for years and were known for their political identities.

11 revolutionaries from Turkey are among these political identities; They were accused of being “terrorists” because of their anti-imperialist, anti-fascist struggles and revolutionary ideas. 11 revolutionaries imprisoned in this operation were tried on charges such as “establishing, directing and being a member of an organization”, “providing weapons”, “carrying weapons” and “possessing a weapon”. The basis of the trial and the accusations in the trial were the anti-terrorism laws and terrorist lists used by imperialism against people, institutions, organizations and even states that it deems opponents all over the world.

The trial process of 11  revolutionaries from Turkey took place under extraordinary conditions like the police operation. The Athens Assize Court made a decision that cannot be explained in terms of national and international law by displaying a political trial practice that clearly violated the fundamental principles of fair trial, in particular the right of defense and the principle of equality of arms.

The court convicted all 11 revolutionaries from Turkey without taking into account the defenses and demands of the prosecuted revolutionaries and their lawyers, and without making any distinction between them, on charges of “being a member of a terrorist organization”, “supplying a weapon”, “carrying a weapon” and “having a weapon”. The court sentenced 11 revolutionaries from Turkey to a total of 333 years in prison. 30 years per prisoner.

As evidence of the accusation of “membership in a terrorist organization”, they shout slogans during the trial – while entering and leaving the courtroom, make a sign of victory; the presence of a flag with the symbols of the sickle and hammer symbolizing socialism in the place where they were detained, and a board with the pictures of the leaders of the struggle for socialism such as Marx, Engels, Lenin, Stalin, Mao, and the revolutionaries who were martyred in this struggle in Turkey; Things that make no sense before the law, such as the 9 detainees staying together in the same place, are shown.

Today, at the end of this political trial practice that ignores the right to a fair trial, we are defending and fighting for the right to a fair trial against this unfair, unlawful and unfair decision, which is clearly given with political instructions.

As a part of this struggle, at the end of the “LONG WALK FOR JUSTICE”, which we carried out in many European countries, for a month, Germany, Ireland, England, France, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Holland, Italy. On Saturday, April 9, 2022, we are holding an international symposium titled “Legal Terror of Imperialism, the Right to a Fair Trial and Political prisoners” in Athens.

In the symposium, which will last all day and will be held in three sessions, we will discuss the legal terrorism and violations of the right to a fair trial, which imperialism and collaborative fascist powers implement by using anti-terrorism laws  and EU terror list against all their opponents and cases of political prisoners.

We invite you to this symposium, which is open to individual and institutional participation, and we hope that by accepting our invitation, you will enrich the symposium with your valuable thoughts.

We call all the political organisations, solidarity committees, political prisoners, lawyers, reporters to join our symposium to extend the international solidarity which is the weapon of the people!

Sincerely,
