2nd solidarity conference and exhibition for academic Nuriye Gülmen in Austria

The 2nd photo exhibition and solidarity conference for Nuriye Gülmen took place in Austria on 1 March 2024.

This time, the event was organised in the hall of the Austrian Trade Union Federation (ÖGB) in Innsbruck, in cooperation with the Austrian Trade Union Education Association.

Before the conference began, at which Nuriye’s sister Beyza Gülmen was connected live via video chat, the guests had the opportunity to view the photo exhibition installed at the back of the hall.

Beyza then talked about the family situation, the professional career and the socio-political commitment of her sister, who has been imprisoned since August 2020.

The audience, most of whom were Turkish-speaking this time, took turns asking questions about the prison conditions and the status of her trial, which Beyza answered. The legal information was supplemented with a video message from Nuriye’s lawyer Oğuzhan Topalkara.

Beyza also read out some personal lines from a letter Nuriye wrote in Silivri Prison at the request of the audience.

The event lasted until 20.30 and ended with a call and promises to write letters to Nuriye, to support the petition for her release and to multiply her voice for justice.
