CONSPIRACY BY THE GERMAN STATE AGAINST PRISONER ANDREAS KREBS

On 26 January, drugs were allegedly found in Andreas Krebs’ cell during a raid.

On the same day, 26 January, he began a hunger strike.

Andreas Krebs believes that the drugs were planted in his cell, possibly with the support of prison officials. Following the raid, all of his prison privileges were revoked — including the possibility of early release after serving two-thirds of his sentence, a reduction he had fought for through various hunger strikes.

Since then, his conditions of detention have significantly deteriorated:

  • All visits take place behind a glass partition, including meetings with his solicitor.
  • Telephone access is limited to €6 per month.
  • He has no access to television.
  • He is no longer granted time outside his cell.
  • He is currently unable to continue his studies.
  • He is not receiving newspapers or post.
  • He is now facing trial as the alleged “biggest dealer in the prison.”

Due to serious health concerns, Andreas was forced to end his hunger strike on 13 February 2026. He had demanded to be transferred back to his former ward.

SOLIDARITY WITH ANDREAS KREBS

We have known Andreas Krebs for many years as a prisoner who has consistently stood up for others — whether for hunger-striking prisoners from Turkey or for Daniela Klette.

Andreas Krebs has spent 26 years in Italian and German prisons. He has suffered from severe cancer and a stroke. For many years he was held in Italian prisons, including the high-security prison of Secondigliano near Naples. He reports that during this time he was denied adequate medical treatment while suffering from kidney cancer.

Today, his health remains in a very fragile condition as a result of prolonged imprisonment and inadequate care.

His health alone should be sufficient grounds for release due to unfitness for imprisonment. Instead, the German state is targeting a seriously ill prisoner with further measures.

This once again demonstrates the depth of its injustice and inhumanity. Not even an openly repressive state like Turkey would stoop so low.

Instead, he faces further repression.

We call on the German authorities to end the reprisals against Andreas Krebs and to stop his solitary confinement.

We also call on the left-wing and progressive public not to leave Andreas Krebs isolated.
