NEITHER U.S. IMPERIALISM NOR AKP FASCISM RECOGNIZES THE KURDISH PEOPLE’S RIGHT TO SELF-DETERMINATION

Neither U.S. imperialism nor AKP fascism can bring about the liberation of the Kurdish people. They seek only tools to exploit. The Freedom of the Kurdish People Is in Their Own Hands.

Öcalan ignores this reality by saying, “Turkey should act as a guardian for the Syrian Kurds.” Asking the AKP for the establishment of a Kurdish state in Syria is, to put it mildly, sheer recklessness. Because the sole concern of the AKP–MHP government is to demoralize and subdue the Kurdish people. While clashes were taking place between the YPG and HTS in Syria’s city of Aleppo, DEM Party and KCK made statements.

They said the following:

“Statement from DEM Party on Aleppo: Attacks Must Be Stopped Condemning the attacks in the Syrian city of Aleppo, the DEM Party stated that it expects Turkey to adopt a ‘unifying and integrative’ stance in the region.” (DW)

“Call from KCK to Ankara Regarding Aleppo: Protect Kurds as You Do Turkmens
The KCK Executive Council Co-Chairship described the attacks on Aleppo’s Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods as ‘an attempt to sabotage a reasonable solution.’ In the statement, which also addressed current debates, a call was made to Ankara to ‘support the Kurds in Syria.’” (Rudaw)

The PKK says: protect the Kurds. And it asks this of AKP fascism. This is called asking help from one’s executioner. At the very moment clashes were ongoing, the Turkish Ministry of Defense was calling on HTS to conduct joint operations against the SDF.

AKP fascism is not a friend of the Kurdish people, but their enemy. It has proven this repeatedly through its actions. To beg the AKP for help today is to leave the Kurdish people defenseless.

Like all peoples who have won their freedom, the Kurdish people must fight. But the real forces they must fight are U.S. imperialism and AKP fascism. Begging help from enemies is weakness.

Öcalan, the KCK, and the DEM Party do not believe in or trust the Kurdish people. They seek Kurdish independence and liberation from their enemies. Yet liberation is won through anti-imperialist and anti-fascist struggle. The peoples of the world have proven this truth time and again.

During the Vietnam War, the number of people killed by the U.S. is estimated in the millions; according to Vietnamese sources, approximately 13 million people were martyred. Although exact figures are debated, it is known that the war cost millions of lives and included major civilian massacres such as My Lai. U.S. imperialism massacred one and a half million Iraqis in Iraq. It killed 60,000 people with bombs in Libya. More than 50,000 people lost their lives during the occupation of Afghanistan.

The U.S. has brought not freedom, but massacre to peoples. And in all these attacks, AKP fascism supported the U.S. and played a role in these massacres. During and after the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan, planes taking off from the Incirlik Air Base carried out massacres.

Can AKP fascism — which stood on the front lines of all these massacres — want the establishment of a Kurdish state in Syria? Of course not. But those who do not trust themselves or their people ask Turkey’s fascism for help. If the Kurdish people are to win independence and freedom, this can only become reality by fighting U.S. imperialism and AKP fascism. All other paths are dead ends. Their outcome is nothing but collaboration. And collaboration cannot bring freedom to the Kurdish people; on the contrary, it shackles them hand and foot.

Begging fascism for help is underestimating one’s own strength. And it must be clearly known: AKP fascism will never allow the establishment of a Kurdish state in Syria. If a Kurdish state is to be established, it will only be achieved through struggle.

This is the only path to liberation for the Kurdish people. All other options lead nowhere except being used as pawns of AKP fascism and U.S. imperialism. The Kurdish people in Syria will not gain independence by making deals with the ISIS remnants called HTS, but by uniting with the peoples of Syria and fighting.

Öcalan wants to place the Kurdish people in Syria under the command of AKP fascism. Yet the Turkish oligarchy has nothing to offer the Kurdish people but death, blood, and tears.

The Kurdish people must fight both HTS and AKP fascism in Syria. They must wage a just and legitimate struggle. Only then can they win and decide their own future. Just as AKP fascism does not recognize the right of Kurds in Turkey to establish a state, it will not recognize this right for Syrian Kurds either. They have already demonstrated this by openly stating that, when necessary, they would attack the SDF together with HTS.

The Kurdish people will obtain their right to self-determination only through struggle. This is a historical truth. Those who ignore this reality are merely chasing illusions. The Kurdish people must see this truth and fight and struggle together with the peoples of Syria for their right to self-determination. Independence is not granted; it is won through struggle.
