On 29th October, a solidarity event was held in Vienna by the Justice Committee for Ayten Öztürk.
The event was attended by 11 people from different nationalities and political backgrounds.
While presenting the German translation of the book, which Ayten has written about her resistance in the torture center near Ankara, the documentary film of Italian journalist Eliana Riva “The Ayten Revolution” was screened.
At the beginning, a live video connection was established with Ayten’s lawyers Doğa İncesu who gave important details about this unlawful and injust case, also answering questions of the interested audience.
Before the movie started, the film producer Eliana Riva connected to the event by video call. She spoke about her experiences in Turkey, her interview with Ayten while being in house arrest and also with mothers who struggle for justice after their children were killed by police.
Eliana also mentioned her film projects about the life conditions of Palestinian people in Gaza and Lebanon.
After the film, questions from the audience were answered by the Justice Committee. Among others the situation of political prisoners in Turkey was explained and information was given about the new SRY isolation prisons and the ongoing resistance who has already achieved initial success
In the end all participants took post cards to be sent to the Constitutional Court which is expected to examine Ayten’s case in which she was sentenced with aggravated life imprisonment. Some participants purchased the book of Ayten.
