Sibel and Gökhan, but also many other comrades, stand up for not letting themselves be broken even in prison, for preserving their own political and social identity even there.
Sibel and Gökhan also stand for thinking as prisoners about those people who have to live outside prison walls under inhumane and oppressive conditions, for standing by their side.
Despite their own hard and difficult life situation, Sibel and Gökhan are in solidarity with the people.
Both continue to fight, even with harshness against themselves, for a better, a freer world. In the German language, “freedom” derives linguistically from “to be with friends; to cherish, to care for.” This also points to the path we all have to walk together, because only a world in which all people are truly “friends” with each other can all also be “free”. It is a stony, a painful and privation-rich way. The struggle of Sibel and Gökhan also points this out to us. But we have to walk it, otherwise future generations will look back on us and turn away in anger and shame.
